Pistol-Mounted Lights Assessment Report

Executive Summary

Pistol-mounted lights attach under the barrel of semiautomatic pistols commonly used by law enforcement personnel, allowing officers to operate their weapon and light with one hand. In August 2012, the System Assessment and Validation for Emergency Responders (SAVER) Program conducted a comparative assessment of pistol-mounted lights with an integrated mount and LED light source.

Ten pistol-mounted lights were assessed by emergency responders based on recommendations from a focus group of emergency responders with experience using pistol-mounted lights. The assessment addressed 14 criteria in four SAVER categories: capability, deployability, maintainability, and usability. The overall results of the assessment are highlighted in the following table.
