Automated External Defibrillator Report Summary

Executive Summary

A comparative assessment of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) was conducted to provide emergency responders with information that will assist them when making operational or acquisition decisions. AEDs are portable defibrillation devices that are used to diagnose a cardiac arrhythmia and determine whether a shock should be administered in an attempt to restore a normal heart rhythm. The following eight AEDs were selected for the assessment:

  • Cardiac Science Corporation – Powerheart AED G3 Plus and Powerheart AED G3 Pro
  • Defibtech - Lifeline AED
  • Heartsine Technologies - Samaritan PAD
  • Philips Medical Systems - HeartStart FR2+ and HeartStart FRx
  • Welch Allyn - AED 20
  • Zoll Medical Corporation - AED Pro
