Comments Needed! New NIJ Bomb Suit Standard
NIJ organized an expert panel to develop a bomb suit standard based on research and testing performed by the Natick Soldier Research, Development, and Engineering (RD&E) Center. The expert panel consists of representatives from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Bombing Prevention; the DHS Office of Science and Technology; the National Institute for Standards and Technology; the Natick Soldier RD&E Center; the FBI Hazardous Device School; the National Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the National Institute of Standards and Technology; ASTM International; Intertek Testing Laboratory; and the Safety Equipment Institute. This expert panel has generated a new NIJ Bomb Suit Standard and is seeking input to the document. The opportunity to provide comments on this document is open to industry technical representatives, public safety agencies and organizations, research, development and scientific communities, and all other stakeholders and interested parties.
The period for submission of comments on the draft NIJ Bomb Suit Standard will run for 30 days, beginning on December 15, 2008 and closing on January 14, 2009.
