Biometrics Biometric identification uses a unique biological, physiological or behavioral characteristic to recognize or confirm a person's identity. The best-known biometric identification method is fingerprinting, but fingerprint technologies also include scanning and automated systems for reading and matching fingerprints. Other biometric identification methods include DNA matching, iris and retinal scans, voice recognition systems, handwriting and signature recognition systems, facial recognition systems, and "smart cards" that contain a key such as a fingerprint.
